Course Reflection

The Introduction to Fiction course surpassed my expectations as it was one of those classes I looked forward to attending. The level of comfort provided allowed for open dialogue between my classmates and our professor. This course did not only introduce us to fiction but it allowed us to tap in our own interpretations of the stories we read and movies we saw and life in general. I actually took notes of movies that came up during discussions.

Our class discussion allowed the opportunity for the class to share their life’s journey as the class had a mixture of students from different cultural backgrounds, age, race, religion and gender all of whom felt comfortable enough to share.

I was able to connect with the characters in the stories and share  personal experiences through my writing. I found doing this to be therapeutic, challenging and exciting.ven surprising myself.

As a takeaway I now read and watch movies with different lenses. I am more aware of what the purpose is apart from entertainment. The caption “based on fiction” has new meaning. I'm more interested in how much of a story or movie is real or fictitious, which is something that really never mattered, as long as it was entertaining.

I was definitely satisfied with the book choices particularly because they were short stories. It gave us the opportunity to read them in its entirety, discuss and reflect on them. The books were enjoyable and able to hold our interest and not to mention affordable so no I would not have liked to read something different. They are some of the few books that I would finish reading even after the semester has ended.

I totally enjoyed this class mainly because I felt comfortable as Professor  Gonzalez would alway remind us that we are in our own home and we should feel comfortable. She also often reminded us to never apologize for our opinion or experience during our discussion. 

This course was amazing thanks to Professor Gonzalez for making the experience memorable. I would encourage anyone needing to take this class to take it with her.
